Emancipation Suite … Equality - Compassion - Liberation
According to the Merriam-Webster Unabridged dictionary the act of emancipation is "to free from restraint, control, or the power of another, especially : to free from bondage or to free from any controlling influence (such as traditional mores or beliefs)."
According to Wikipedia, "Emancipation is any effort to procure economic and social rights, political rights or equality, often for a specifically disenfranchised group, or more generally, in discussion of such matters”
These definitions speak to the bondage imposed by others, vivid proof of our inhumanity. Emancipation can also mean to free our spirit, soul or true nature. To free ourselves from the concepts and habits that hold us back is to be fully emancipated. That freeing-of-the-soul is music’s greatest purpose.
With love and appreciation for our shared humanity, we dedicate this music to emancipation in all its meaning. May we all be freed from bondage in whatever form it might take. May we all do whatever we can to help each other be free.
On February 28, 2020 – a few weeks before the Covid-19 pandemic shut everything down – Franklin Kiermyer, Davis Whitfield, Emilio Modeste and Otto Gardner met at Scatter The Atoms’ studio in Hoboken, New Jersey to create and record extemporaneous improvisations. This is the result of that day’s work. This piece, now entitled Emancipation Suite, was recorded at once, without any predetermination. This recording has no edits, save for dividing the contiguous performance of 25:44 into side A and side B.
Side A : Equality 13:47
Side B : Compassion / Liberation 12:06
While nothing ever moves from equality's expanse
Appearances shine in a wondrous magic show
So many rivers flow into the mighty sea
Where all their different waters have the same salty taste
Though many they may be, they all taste the same
In this there is no differentiation
And everything there is all throughout existence
All have the telling flavor of the natural state
How wonderful this is, this is wonderful indeed
What happiness this is, this is happiness indeed
- Shantarakshita, A Vajra Song From The Ocean
Power to the people. Freedom of the soul. Pass it on to the young and old. - Jimi Hendrix

Energy time maddafakkas! This is hard hitting free jazz for the revolution. Listening to this you could believe it might actually happen!
Anyone who thinks Jazz is for old folks should give this a spin. It couldn’t be more contemporary to my ears. Crinklechips
